While standing duty at Weapons Bn Parris Island, I got curious about what exactly was on one of the clip boards in the office. I started looking through all the regs on it and found one that said "mustaches while discouraged, may be worn by all Marines assigned to Parris Island, with the exception of drill instructors. " Or words to that effect. Those of us on Charlie Line immediately began growing mustaches, the ones that could and wanted to. We caught a lot of crap from those telling us we couldn't have them, until our CW3 grew his. My name was mud with several officers over that one, guess that they couldn't grow one.

A wise man knows that it is possible to win the battle and still lose the war.
The CO may not always be right, but he is always the CO.

Just I tend to think most of this silliness when I was in was CS and tended to the absurd, I tend to think arguing over whether it is legit because it is or isn't "regulation" is CS as well. If the CO doesn't want you walking on his grass, I suggest you keep your carcass on the sidewalks. I know of many Marines of various ranks below Colonel who met the wrath of the CO of the Camp Lejeune rifle range for walking on that grass, and decided CS or not, regulation or not, perhaps this is not the best hill to die on.
