The Marine Corps is the Marine Corps---regardless of your gender, there's a job to do, and you have to meet the training standards. A Marine is required to fight shoulder to shoulder with other Marines, their lives are in each others hands. I spent 915 days in Vietnam, there are no free rides, one weak link in the chain will cause unnecessary deaths.

Just think of co-ed Marine boot camp. The DIs will have to alter their demeanor!

Why should they? If you can't handle the pressure of having someone in your face, challenging and pushing you, then you got on the wrong bus. If you need a safe space, can't handle stress, adversity, or lack the ability to adapt and bounce back then I have a hard time believing that you will successfully complete a deployment to an austere environment.

Agreed, CPT (Join to see) I have experienced a female cadet breaking into tears in a non-stress instructional situation (1976). As an old Army NCO it was a difficult. I will never again attempt that level of basic instruction/communication.

What's to cry about? They can't kill you and they can't eat you. It's mental. If you can't mentally handle being yelled at, it won't matter how physically fit you are. Crass as it may sound, I don't need that in a high stress environment. Not saying you can't take a moment to let out your emotions and process a situation after the fact - that's healthy. But you have to be able to temporarily compartmentalize to get through something. And getting yelled at during basic isn't one of them.

Instead of before, improving the weakest link, he will have to conform to the weakest link as the standard. Such as my Army. Make Ave 17-21 push-up max is 71, as for females if same age group 42. Two mile run male max, 13:00 for female 15:36. Equality! Yet the females will get the same blue infantry cord.
