I think that the Sinai force should have kept its combat-zone tax exemption SGM Mikel Dawson. They are a target of opportunity for ISIL, al qaeda and other factions that do their best to undermine Egypt, Israel and the USA.
The Egyptian Army has taken significant losses in the Sinai this year and the downing of the Russian aircraft by a bomb a few month ago indicates tensions will continue in that region for some time.

Anywhere in that part of the world should be considered a combat zone. The people in charge of the Marines Compound in Beirut did not think so and got a lot of people dead for it. You should be armed and alert all the time because you are being watched.

Having "visited" Sinai, I believe that this is BIG mistake on the part of the government. Being on the front line of the war against terror, fighting, defending and the constant stress, waiting for the next mortar attack, or the possibility of an IED when out on patrol, are just a few of the problems that these Military members face, SGM Mikel Dawson. Serving under such circumstances should absolutely earn the SM the pay, and the combat patch.

PVT Robert Gresham And after having your little "vacation", you'd fully understand. Maybe some of the "big boys" making the decisions should take a vacation.

SGM Mikel Dawson - It does sound like someone who has never been there (except in postcards), and does not fully understand the situation. Maybe those responsible for this idea should "visit" the area themselves. Maybe six months, to a year, of experience would help not only get them out from behind their desks, but also exercise their skills as Soldiers. A perfect training experience !!
