This is the typical perspective of a libertarian - In the libertarian view, societies and governments infringe on individual liberties whenever they tax wealth, create penalties for victim-less crimes, or otherwise attempt to control or regulate individual conduct which harms or benefits no one except the individual who engages in it. In their view the quotidian tasks or responsibilities of each member of a society becomes a burden. These tasks include such things as taking care of the elderly, mentally ill or other disenfranchised group as well as policing the societal norms. They want the benefits that society has to offer they just don't want to pay for them via taxes, fines or in the case the subsidies to the farmers. What they neglect to understand is that each member of a society has a responsibility to contribute in part to their society in order for it to function. If every one takes and no one puts into the system then we run into a deficit. This deficit can be based on knowledge, wealth, security and so on. This philosophy can be expanded into the view of libertarian socialism. Personally while I understand what they are saying I believe that some systems need to be mandated as if we all subscribe to autonomy we will have a very inefficient society. In simple terms imagine rush hour traffic with no bound set of motor vehicle rules or devices (restrictions) like stop lights or maintained roadways (taxes). Much like communism when applied this philosophy exposes many flaws in its design.
