As a Senior Medical Department Representative (SMDR), performed patient care and associated shipboard administrative and logistical duties, which included diagnostic procedures, advanced and basic life support; performed the same duties as a physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, and nurse, i.e., conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat patients to include prescription writing, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, x-rays, writing patient referrals to specialist and patient follow-up; performed minor surgeries and invasive procedures. Trained in the oversight and management of safety, preventive medicine, environmental and industrial health surveillance programs.
