Am I authorized TDY enroute to Drill Sergeant School to report straight to Benning afterwards?

Currently I report to school in Jan 2018 and then report to Benning in April. Is it possible to clear Riley before I go to school and then just go straight to Benning afterwards?
I am also MACP and my wife reports Mar 10 2018. That's not a problem at all however, I would like to not go back to Kansas just to sign out on leave just to go to Benning. Is this possible? Thank you I advance.

Unless something has changed, DS school will be TDY and return, not en-route...
The failure rate on in processing or during school is too high to justify PCS with TDY in route.
So as of 2014, the answer was no (im sure someone will pipe up and say THEY DID...and yes exceptions to policy or mistakes happen..but the policy was TDY and return.)

You've got plenty of time to get ready, so get ready. Stay healthy, meet AR 600-9, and PT! The graduation standard was 70% in each event; I don't expect that will have changed. Make sure your packet is locked tight as SGM Erik Marquez said. Learn what modules are and get intimate.
Position of Attention, Hand Salute, and Rest Positions at the Halt are all pitched during the first week.
It would also be a good idea to make sure you know the NCO Creed and learn the Drill Sergeant Creed before you get there! It's not hard, but it'll send ya to the back of the chow line if you mess it up lol.

Thanks SFC (Join to see) - I learned those modules and Drill Sergeant Creed and I continue to practice them each day. Its a good group of us going and our CSM randomly when we see him in passing so thats good. Im not looking forward to the experience. Thanks again.

SGM Erik Marquez - rgr. Im getting my packet squared away now and passed my evaluation from behavioral health and was stamped a GO for Duty. As for now Im just looking forward to the experience. I pracitce the modules, position of attention, rest positions at the halt, hand salute, and Drill Sergeant creed each week and dont plan of being a statistic while there. I appreciate the insight sgm.

I'm not sure how it works now, but when I was at Ft Hood one of our NCOs went to Drill School. He had to come back and clear after completing the course. I think it was set up that way in case a candidate didn't complete the course.

I heard this word of mouth rumor as well. I am trying to eliminate this useless event of having to go all the way back just to sign out on leave. I'll speak with MPD at Riley and see, however was hoping someone did this in the past and could provide assistance. I appreciate this input.

MSG (Join to see) - I know my information is more than ten years old, but I can understand why the Army might do it. I wonder what the attrition rate is for Drill School.

Yes, you can. This is PCS enroute + ptdy. You are authorized 10 days of ptdy for "house hunting" use 1 leave form for all the dates and then be specific on which dates are what in the remarks section. Do not put anything in the chargeable dates portion.

Im tracking The PTDY portion. I just wanted to ensure due to the high demand in schools slots, was it possible to PCS before school. I appreciate your input SGT (Join to see)
