The Programs and Public Relations Director will manage three major
aspects of daily life at JWV: programs, development, and public relations.
Beyond maintaining records, the Director also handles questions from
members and the general public about JWV, our programs, veterans’
issues, and ways to collaborate.
The job entails:
Programs:
Plan the JWV annual convention, which includes data management,
working closely with members, and coordinating with the hotel and other
venues
Work with members to further develop JWV programs; act as liaison within
the office for these programs
Coordination with schools, programs, and other organizations
Pitching and creating new programs as needs shift
Public Relations:
Daily monitoring and reporting of print, social, and web coverage of
veterans issues
Assisting with drafting, editing, and writing the quarterly newspaper
Writing press releases, articles, and handling the organization’s social
media accounts
Familiarity with grammar etiquette and the editing process
Development:
Generating donor acknowledgements, email solicitations, and cultivating
relationships with donors
Managing vendors and working with the Development Committee on
JWV’s direct mail programs
A quality applicant has:
A friendly disposition and ability to keep a calm, collected demeanor;
professional phone and email etiquette
A strong motivation to check items off the “To Do List” and a passion for
efficiency
Attention to detail, especially with data entry
A strong understanding of Jewish culture
Willingness to learn about military history/culture and an interest in
veterans and military affairs,
Communications or social media experience
Aptitude for and experience with development database software or other
data management tools
A proven record of quality customer service and/or event/program
planning experience
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and related experience
Excellent writing skills and ability to craft content on a variety of platforms;
Ability to draft well-written correspondence and edit documents.
Able to work independently and proactively
Proficiency with Microsoft office programs, including Excel and Word
Excellent organizational and communications skills
Ability to self-manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced
environment
