The Ukrainian Orthodox church is not canon for it has not followed procedure of the Orthodox Church. It was not up for Constantinople to recognize it as separate from the Russian Orthodox church, it was under the Moscow Patriarchte's control. The Orthodox church does not operate like the Catholic church where there is a head of leadership in to form of the pope. The head of leadership in the Orthodox church is Jesus Christ, it is not a person. This stunt Ukraine is pulling is to show their growing allegiance and shifting to the Catholic church. No doubt this has further goals of having Ukraine become a part of Poland in the future, and this is just one of their latest attempts at doing so.
