During the Gulf war, a British Sea Dart missile was fired by the Royal Navy vessel HMS Gloucester and destroyed and Iraqi "Silkworm" missile headed for USS Missouri. During the engagement, the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate USS Jarrett (FFG-33) had already attempted to destroy it using its Phalanx CIWS anti-missile system, which had "destroyed" chaff launched by the USS Missouri instead!
The USS Missouri was engaged by an Iraqi Silkworm missile while under escort by USS Jarrett (equipped with Phalanx CIWS) and the Royal Navy Type 42 Destroyer (and Flagship) HMS Gloucester (carrying Sea Dart) task force during the 1991 Gulf War. The missile was intercepted and destroyed by a Sea Dart fired from Gloucester.
