Flying "The Hump" in a C-46 is no time to lose an engine!

What a real successful airlift looks like.

The loss of planes and personnel makes this one a bad candidate for a successful airlift. The experience learned in the CBI were certainly instrumental in the success of the Berlin Airlift. That would be my candidate for a model successful Airlift.
My Father flew on the mission too.

When I was serving a congregation in Phoenix, I had a member who was a pilot for these operations in WWII. He was amazing! I could and did listen to his stories for hours when he was alive. His son got him an Honor Flight before he died, and our parish did a “send off” to separate his heroic service!
