While attending Air Movement Operations course the instructor telling us that eh C-5 is the easiest plane to load plan "slap some glue on the paper throw the templates up and catch up and 9 times of 10 you will be in tolerance of center of balance. Do not that in class." Well that night I went home and tried in my hotel room and darn right it is the easiest plane.

Oh I could spend all day on this. First one that comes to mind:

Air Assault school, sling load day. CH-47 (one of MY birds) is the aircraft. My buddy and I are hooking up the load... slap it in the hook and take off running with rotor wash at our backs. It felt like I was running 90 miles per hour, like I had wings.

... until my buddy turned to look back, and with flailing arms clothes-lined me right in the mouth.

Combat lifesaver school. "Give your buddy an IV day."

I've got great veins... seriously no joke a blind phlebotomist can hit a vein on me, so I go first without incident.

My buddy, kind of a jerk but (I swear) with no malicious intent I could not find a vein. I'm nothing if not tenacious and kept trying, until the instructor stopped me to prevent him from passing out.

MEOC (Military Equipment Operator School) I'd already earned a Driver(W) badge, but hadn't been to class.
The day before My Unit's training NCO said "The only way you can fail is if you fall asleep in class."
The night before my battle buddy disappeared after his girlfriend broke up with him and I spent all night up looking for him.

The morning of I knew I was in danger of falling asleep and failing... so I stopped at the local "stop and rob" and grabbed a box of chocolate covered donuts, a 2 litre of Gatoraide, and a bottle of "Mini Thins"...

So there I sit in class, eating donuts, drinking Gatoraide, and popping Mini Thins... feeling exhausted and "wired for sound" and like my hair is growing all day. I posted a great time on the "gas pedal to brake pedal" simulator though!

At Shake and Bake NCO school and as the acting cadet commander I had every candidate put a picture of my French Canadian Girl friend (Dian) in their picture frame. When I got to Vietnam with the Blackhorse I was sent to FSB Dian, it is pronounced Zian as in French. Coincidence, I think not?

CPT Private RallyPoint Member Telecommunications Managers School, Bambi busting on Me for being the Class "Drunk" You're at the Club Every Night. She Forgot that I spent 2 Hrs after everyone Went Home, Rewriting My Notes and Reviewing Every Bit of Material before I called it a Night. I am the One that Secured the Safes at Night. My Evening Meal was at the Club because the Mess Hall was already closed when I called it a Night. There wasn't a DCA form that I didn't know like the Back of My Hand. I could Write a SOFA with My Eyes Closed.

Went to Radio school in Bad Toltz Germany. on weekends could take train into Munich and have a ball for the week end. But the best was graduating from any school.

I went to visit West Point in 1970 as an ROTC cadet. I stayed in a room on the first floor close to a canon that they fired in the morning. They fired it that first morning and out of that top bunk I came.

Mine was during BNCOC when I was asked to help a female soldier, who was used to doing the bike for her PT test, how to do the 2.5 mile walk instead. She started out walking it in 42 minutes, but I had her under 34 by the time of the test itself.

In PLDC I was taking the land nav exam at Fort Lewis. I must have miscalculated my pace count or didn't see the turn I was supposed to take because I came out of the woods into a small grass clearing and instead of seeing my point, I was looking at a small cove in Puget Sound. The cove had calm water and a small, dark channel separating where I was standing with a small island coated in mist and evergreen trees.

Realizing I was in a beautiful place, though the wrong one, I walked through the tall grass to the edge of the bluff. There was an old, fallen log watching over the cove and so I dropped my gear and just sat there in silence for about five minutes.

I was at Ft. Rucker Al. in 1965 going to HUEY school. I had been on a recovery flight that had lasted until after midnight. My class the next morning started at 0700 on loading rocket pods. Needless to say, I fell asleep(a big -no) at the first break, the SSG. teaching the class called my up an told me to load a pod. I did it correctly, and he said I'll be d...ed, you can learn while you're asleep.

Most of the replies already given make my comments rather mundane and uneventful. Nevertheless, at my Radio-Teletype School at Fort Gordon (1960) we fellow students would walk around after class firing off Morse code to one another orally, as in, "Hey, Smith, di-di-dum-dum-di-di!" (That means IMI, or 'repeat back.')

Often, we'd punctuate our coded messages with vulgarities to spice up the topics.

Tech School, Sheppard AFB 1984. Got drunk at the Airmen's Club sunday night and was still VERY hungover Monday morning in class. Had my head down on the desk and the instructor told me to pay attention and asked a couple of questions, I answered all his questions in detail without even raising my head. He just laughed and said it was obvious I knew the material and left me alone for the rest of the day.

I was stationed at Ft. Hood and was going to NCOES at Ft. Sill. On Friday, after class, I would go home until Sunday evening. Then go back to Ft. Sill for the next week. One week-end I decided to stay home until the very last minute. I got back to Ft. Sill just in time to go to class. At lunch time I fell asleep and missed a whole block of instruction. The next day we were tested on that block of instruction. In the whole course, that was the only test that I maxed.

Having the Col pin on my jump wings on the LZ, June 1977. Just after watching two guys get tangled and their chutes cigarette rolled. They never knew that happened, they separated enough that they inflated again, but they could have been dead and never know it.

When I was at Benning for ANCOC the rangers was teaching us day and night patrolling. By the time we all finished rotating in and out of the patrol leader position it was after midnight. The ranger in charge was taking the last patrol leader to recon our last patrol base where we were to spend the night and told us if we made any noise while he was gone we would walk another hour or more to find a new patrol base. While he was gone a student fell asleep and starting very loud. I picked up a stick and started tapping him on the leg to wake him up. He jump up and starting yelling "snake, snake, snake" I tried to calm him down by telling him it was a field mouse. Yes he was heard by the ranger instructor and yes we walked for almost 2 more hours. I never told anyone it was me waking the student up because everyone was mad.
