The cove had calm water and a small, dark channel separating where I was standing with a small island coated in mist and evergreen trees. <br /><br />Realizing I was in a beautiful place, though the wrong one, I walked through the tall grass to the edge of the bluff. There was an old, fallen log watching over the cove and so I dropped my gear and just sat there in silence for about five minutes. By the time we all finished rotating in and out of the patrol leader position it was after midnight. The ranger in charge was taking the last patrol leader to recon our last patrol base where we were to spend the night and told us if we made any noise while he was gone we would walk another hour or more to find a new patrol base. While he was gone a student fell asleep and starting very loud. I picked up a stick and started tapping him on the leg to wake him up. He jump up and starting yelling &quot;snake, snake, snake&quot; I tried to calm him down by telling him it was a field mouse. Yes he was heard by the ranger instructor and yes we walked for almost 2 more hours. I never told anyone it was me waking the student up because everyone was mad.
