All the more reason to encourage SMs of all ages and ranks to save every nickel they can and invest it in a savings plan so they will at least get something up front should they transition before full retirement. The new retirement package also provides earlier benefits so time short of 20 yrs is not 'wasted' retirement-wise. SMs are also eligible for Social Security benefits at around 60 or so. A SM who finds employment after separation has the potential to retire again and hopefully draw another pension benefit from the private sector, accrue more savings from pvt sector compensation, and add to SS benefits.Response by Capt Tom Brown made Apr 23 at 2016 10:40 PM2016-04-23T22:40:59-04:002016-04-23T22:40:59-04:00SSG Dennis Grossmann1474839

Yet the POTUS wants to do an 18% increase in the Presidential pension?
The outgoing leaders in government should get a 90 day severance at 35% of their pay.
