I've gotten really into watching and learning about the pacific theatre and I don't seem to have any interested FB friends so I was looking for a group or such for discussion. It's pretty scary. I remember watching WW2 documentaries in the 1980's, and now that same history is being sensationalized with a modern spin for a modern audience. I'm not talking NEW information here. I'm talking political temperaments rewriting the past to be more palatable for today.

Stuff I see that's current production have blaring technical errors.

I suppose it's a symptom of age. I was reading, watching and listening to that history from those that made it. Now it's being written by history buffs, and academics who are multiple generations separated from those events with their own personal biased of world views.

I do military funerals, and once in a while I get a WW2 Vet. Keep in mind, those WW2 Vets at the YOUNGEST today would have to be AT LEAST 97. That 97 year old is young enough to have went to basic training at age 17, got shipped off to Japan, and the moment he stepped off the boat the war ended. THOSE guys are 97. The guys who actually were in the thick of it are just about all gone, and those that were would have been teens and very early 20s at best.

I'm sure the Legionnaires of Caesar would say we have it all wrong too, and it's every more out of touch.

**************
What I am liking though is historians are FINALLY getting into the weeds with after action reports. Yes, we know about Pearl Harbor, yes we know about Dolittle, yes we know about Stalingrad, yes we know about Midway..................

But there are all the little things in between those major engagements or other parallel big events that are finally getting looked at. It only took 80 years.

All the while Japan and Germany are trying to distance themselves and more than happy to blur the modern interpretations. Italy is happy just letting the world forget they were ever a part of it at all. CPT Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 04 Apr 2025 02:36:48 -0400 2025-04-04T02:36:48-04:00 2025-03-27T13:00:23-04:00
