I'd like to share an interesting piece that made me think of how often we actually take the time to write our professional contacts we have online.

Linked-In and Rally Point wouldn't be too bad but if I decided to use Twitter, FB, Google + and Pinterest. It would take a long time, Last time I looked it was something like 7,000.

For what purpose served??? Every Facebook friend I've asked or was asked by them to "friend up," I wrote 'thanks for asking' or 'welcome to my world.' I have over 3600 FB "friends" and over a thousand LinkedIn contacts. Who cares that I wrote what I did to each one of them? That's between them and me. I sure don't think it should bring me any special accolades.

Honestly? No. Many contacts are people I haven't ever met or worked with. However, we've connected based on shared goals, career focus, etc. I see these connections as tools in the toolbox, as I am to them. We may not need each other in the course of our every day jobs, but the time may come where we have to reach out. And it's good to know that large network exists in the meantime.
