You are not guaranteed to be an 11B. Usually you are offered a chance to go to CA or Psyop before the army has it's way with you, that's a good way to stay not only airborne, but sof as well CW2 Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 20 Feb 2019 15:37:24 -0500 2019-02-20T15:37:24-05:00 Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 20 at 2019 4:04 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/would-you-still-somehow-get-into-an-airborne-unit-if-you-went-18x-as-prior-service-and-failed-out-of-q-course?n=4385310&urlhash=4385310

You do go to Airborne after OSUT and a large percentage of 18X don't make it all the way through the pipeline. That makes it a very effective recruiting tool for filling critical MOSs.
People who drop from the pipeline get reclassed to the needs of the Army. After their new AIT they will usually go to an Airborne assignment. Mostly that will be an Airborne BCT or an SF Command unit.
