Neither. I don't want 'views' in my news. I want facts. Reality. I don't want the reporter's opinion. Growing up, that's how it used to be. You would have never seen the media 20 years ago (I know you know this) like it is today. They would have been laughed out of town.

I want news to tell me the 5 W's and for me to interpret that information I don't want there opinion I want real reporting of facts not was they think about something.

I would like news to be factual, leave the analysis to me, and editorial opinion to be clearly identified as editorial opinion before it is broadcast or printed. I believe both should be stated without all the emotion and hate.

I want news that reports what happened. No agenda, no slant and no cherry picking. Now opinion shows are different and I prefer ones that look for solutions vs supporting one side or another.

I would like to find a news media who just reports the 6 "W"s and leave the rest up to me. This is what journalism is suppose to do in the first place - NO OPINIONS.

News should be news. That is the problem we have in the media today. News has views interlaced in it and you cannot easily differentiate between the news and an opinion worked into it. News should not go "against your views". It is factual. It is the who, what, where, when and why of journalism. I can read or watch op eds that can help analyze the news and make my own decisions about the issues.

NONE OF THE ABOVE. Reporting the news does not mean giving a viewpoint, that is what Editorials are for. If your reporting the news and submitting a view to go along with it, it is called EDITORIALIZING the news NOT REPORTING the news. There is a difference.

What I want in reporting the news and what is available are two different animals. As most of those responding here I want to the news to be factual and unbiased. Unfortunately, there is no single source that provides that golden standard and there isn't been in recent history - probably since the era of Morrow and Cronkite at best. So the best course of action is to select three or four news broadcasts that, in your view, provide different slants on the news, compare their coverage and, to the extent possible, fact check them and come to your best conclusion.

Generally read bbc, fox, msn, and military.com online. Listen to SRNnews, and NPR on the radio. Not every day, but those are my main news sources. Then I read a smattering of whatever I see linked on RP, and facebook. I try to avoid any straight propaganda except to understand the author's mindset or slant.
I also understand that my worldview does color my interpretation of what I see. There's no such thing as "fair and balanced." There's true and untrue. It's what we make of it, and how we interpret it.

I prefer the objective variety which is often hard to find. Typically I have to look at left news and right news to find the actual story somewhere in the middle.

There are very few if any traditional news organizations that can still afford to tap into the multiple resources needed to present genuine opposing view points. With reductions in staffing most National and International press organizations literally don't have people on the ground (news bureaus) in the locations they are "reporting" on. Without staff they are left either repeating political and corporate press releases or contracting out to one of small number of equally undermanned "news services". This leaves them without the ability to adequately judge if the story they print/present is objective. So for the most part they go with what "feels" right (i.e. personal opinion) in lieu of gathering actual facts. What's worse is that most of the media are currently on the precipice of massive layoffs. Papers including The Journal, The New York Times, The Guardian, and Gannett Publications have announced plans to reorganize, shed staff, or kill off whole divisions.
