Would you rather have automated ID checks at the gate I.E. Ft. Bragg, or personalized "Welcome to _____" security?

Do it make sense to expose soldiers at the gates? is there a better/smarter way to implement security at our gates?

Common sense says every person entering a military installation should be confronted F2F.....And an immediate assessment made....That's how i would handle it. Not to mention automation includes electronics which can be hacked as we have seen countless times.

Automated...Soldiers can be utilized in higher priority assignments, like sharpening their MOS/Soldier skills.

I would take human interaction over automation anytime when it comes to manning the gates.

I don't think automated is necessarily the best idea. Seems very prone to people bypassing the system and gaining access when they shouldn't have it. That or someone may have their ID card worn down just enough that they wouldn't be able to get on. It also removes the ability to have random vehicle checks which may seem like a hassle to some but can be necessary to properly protecting personnel and resources.

I think it's good to have it set up the way we do but then again I am Air Force. Security Forces purpose is to fill a role similar to civilian Law Enforcement and Security when it comes to protecting AF bases. Can't say the same about the Army or other branches' MPs because I don't know enough about them.

You gotta be crazy, dumb, or just right out ignorance if this should happen. Thought we was acting on terrorists issues that why gates are manned or am I missing something here. They pull a stunt like this they opening a whole other ballgame with anyone walking through those gates. If that shall happen than you better have them armed for there protection. Look what hat at Fort Bragg that Dr went wild and shot up the place and killed injured personnel and cilvilians. I don't know what going on in OUR BELOVED COUNTRY WE CALL HOME AND AMERICA I pray for all my fellow service personnel they are safe even day and they get to come home. It's just down right a shame that the world can't just look around and see that everyone don't want to fight want peace be able to preach the word of God to people but than we get killed for believing. For me, I'll fight to my last breathe in body goes out of me sincerely we all got to be watching each others back in this crazy world we live but I still Love my Country and will never shame it for nothing. Bless each and everyone of you out there that are still fighting or retired etc. We née to Stand Together.

The primary reason for manning the gates is for security through visual deterrence. Considering most Army posts are not entirely enclosed, there are still ways to get on without having to go through a gate. And that visual deterrent would not be accomplished through an automated system.

Face to face allows you to sense things that an automated system could miss. Is this person using a stolen ID? Are they drunk? Are they under duress (forced against their will)? Do they look deranged and ready to kill anybody they meet? Is this soldier bring a bunch of underage girls back to his barracks?
