Would you rather fly commercial or military? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/would-you-rather-fly-commercial-or-military <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I hate flying with a passion but Everytime I flew military(c-130, c-17) I just had a better experience. Maybe because I was not cramped and I could walk around. Being able to put up a hammock and sleep undisturbed helped out a lot. Much better than riding cramped up in a civilian aircraft for three hours. Landing is for legs. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 11 Sep 2015 00:32:14 -0400 2015-09-11T00:32:14-04:00 Response by SSG Toryn Green made Sep 11 at 2015 12:32 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/would-you-rather-fly-commercial-or-military?n=957910&urlhash=957910 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I guess it would depend where you were going and for what purpose. My last deployment, I went through CRC at Ft. Bliss. We flew 1st class Delta (chartered) all the way into Kuwait (very small group). That was very nice. Under normal circumstances though, I would prefer military. No civilian airport B.S. and as you stated the ability to get up and walk around is very nice. Never did like C-5s but C-141s sometimes were alright. Enjoyed sitting in a Jeep at a few thousand feet. I always loved riding in Military Contract Aircraft. They always spoiled my ass rotten. C-9 Nightingale Flights were pretty good too since they had to feed the Patients Hot meals and I got what was left. Like you and others have said, freedom of movement and the ability to sling up a hammock would make it much more comfortable. In the 70's I flew on the C-5 Galaxy over the Atlantic several times. The cost $15. MAC transport saved me thousands. But those C-5's freaked me out with the noises and the wing flex while in flight. The C-141 west bound was OK. I had my wife and very young son with me at the time. They issued us those yellow sponge like ear plugs for the noise. The bench seats were great, because we could actually lay down and relax. Flew a C-5 back to England (sitting facing the tail was unique) and a C-130 from there back to Frankfurt. I loved the cost ($15 each, each way). I know about the little boxed lunch. A cold bologna and cheese sandwich with those little packets of condiments. I guess given the cost and the comfort (minus the noise) made flying military aircraft a bit better. I went back twice for a Reforger exercise and flew several more times on military aircraft. But let's face it, 9-15 hours on an airplane is a PITA, for sure... civilian or military. SSG Red Hoffman Sat, 19 Sep 2015 08:53:07 -0400 2015-09-19T08:53:07-04:00 2015-09-11T00:28:38-04:00
