I felt responsible and took notes after careful observation. Then I tipped off the police. Not sure if the criminal activity was stopped, but I feel better. As a public servant in Army uniform, I feel obligated to report crime off-duty, off-post. Where do you stand on this issue? Do you 'get involved?' I didn't know what to do...but when the guy who was doing the beating walked to his car and got out a tire iron. I got out of my vehicle and got in front of the man on the ground and told him, his daughter was crying and it wasn't right to beat a man with a tire iron in front of his child. He stopped and it was just enough time for the guy to get in his car and make a dash for it. Later I thought about it and I could've got whacked with the tire iron. It happened so fast, I didn't have time to call the police, but if I did, I would've have called them. This happened on Sean Haggerty in EL Paso Texas. My head is still on a swivel & the contact numbers for several officers are still saved in my phone. I'm always looking for what is out of sorts, whether by choice or by instinct.
