I felt responsible and took notes after careful observation. Then I tipped off the police. Not sure if the criminal activity was stopped, but I feel better. As a public servant in Army uniform, I feel obligated to report crime off-duty, off-post. Where do you stand on this issue? Do you 'get involved?' Would you 'get involved' off-post, off-duty to tip off cops to a crime? 2015-05-31T20:38:09-04:00 CH (MAJ) William Beaver 711093 <div class="images-v2-count-1"><div class="content-picture image-v2-number-1" id="image-44348"> <div class="social_icons social-buttons-on-image"> <a href='https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rallypoint.com%2Fanswers%2Fwould-you-get-involved-off-post-off-duty-to-tip-off-cops-to-a-crime%3Futm_source%3DFacebook%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_campaign%3DShare%20to%20facebook' target="_blank" class='social-share-button facebook-share-button'><i class="fa fa-facebook-f"></i></a> <a href="https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=Would+you+%27get+involved%27+off-post%2C+off-duty+to+tip+off+cops+to+a+crime%3F&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rallypoint.com%2Fanswers%2Fwould-you-get-involved-off-post-off-duty-to-tip-off-cops-to-a-crime&amp;via=RallyPoint" target="_blank" class="social-share-button twitter-custom-share-button"><i class="fa fa-twitter"></i></a> <a href="mailto:?subject=Check this out on RallyPoint!&body=Hi, I thought you would find this interesting:%0D%0AWould you &#39;get involved&#39; off-post, off-duty to tip off cops to a crime?%0D%0A %0D%0AHere is the link: https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/would-you-get-involved-off-post-off-duty-to-tip-off-cops-to-a-crime" target="_blank" class="social-share-button email-share-button"><i class="fa fa-envelope"></i></a> </div> <a class="fancybox" rel="5cb8b185dd9228ac383dfe08651a1745" href="https://d1ndsj6b8hkqu9.cloudfront.net/pictures/images/000/044/348/for_gallery_v2/image.jpg"><img src="https://d1ndsj6b8hkqu9.cloudfront.net/pictures/images/000/044/348/large_v3/image.jpg" alt="Image" /></a></div></div>I have known of criminal activity off-post taking place right near where I lived. I didn't know what to do...but when the guy who was doing the beating walked to his car and got out a tire iron. I got out of my vehicle and got in front of the man on the ground and told him, his daughter was crying and it wasn't right to beat a man with a tire iron in front of his child. He stopped and it was just enough time for the guy to get in his car and make a dash for it. Later I thought about it and I could've got whacked with the tire iron. It happened so fast, I didn't have time to call the police, but if I did, I would've have called them. This happened on Sean Haggerty in EL Paso Texas. My head is still on a swivel &amp; the contact numbers for several officers are still saved in my phone. I'm always looking for what is out of sorts, whether by choice or by instinct.
