Also on how your body is handling the military service right now. Is your body beat up and broke up, do you have arthritisin your knees and ankle? You have to look at it like that. Because if you can keep going I would stay in and finish my full 20 years that way you are guaranteed a retirement check. Plus your right is E-6 right now which is very good. It will also depend on how many years you have left till retirement. Good luck to XL with your decision I'll support you from here either way you decide to go. I made the decision to leave the Army back during the 1990's reduction in force. I asked to leave, and was allowed to leave. I still had over two years left on that enlistment. I had decided that my MOS was being reduced, peeps were not allowed to reclass to another MOS so as to reduce the force. I was Nuclear Weapons Specialist, a cold war role, which today, is now coming back into fashion it seems. But, I left, went to college and never looked back. Something one must realize, is your earning power is sometimes MUCH better even WITHOUT a retirement check. Financially, it will not catch up until I would be in my mid 70's. That is, my earning power working as a civilian is more than what it would have been to complete 20 years service, then, reciveing retired pay. I would have to be recieving retired pay until I reach my mid-70's. Then, it would have been more benificial to retire from the service. But, this way, I am in charge of my life. NOT the Army or Government.
