Yeah you'd be excited, but then again, excitement would be overshadowed by fear within a mere instant.

No because we as a nation cannot afford to be everywhere all the time we need to fix this nation from the inside out and fix the issues here at our home front.

Define 'excited'?
Some have claimed that we are already in the middle of WWIII? The War on Terror is global in nature and when we think it is nearing an end, it flares up again?
If you are thinking a conventional war with global fronts...seems unlikely currently but stranger things have happened?

Read up on WWI and WWII and see if there is anything there to be excited about. Over 50 million civilians are estimated to have been killed during WWII alone. Now imagine those casualties were in America. Excited is not the word I would use to describe that magnitude of death.

Interesting choice of words.

1st Question: What in your opinion constitutes WWIII?
Several countries fighting on opposing sides? We have that in Syria/Iraq.
Use of nukes? Had none in 1 and used only 2 at the end of 2.

For me, it's one of those "I know it when I see it" type things, but your opinion may be different.

A true World War in the modern era--even if all participants somehow agreed to keep it conventional--would bring unprecedented death and destruction. And as the US had been nearly completely untouched by the last two, we may not have an appreciation for such devastation; however, best to consider the possibility that the next World War could be fought on American soil.

I actually do get where the "excited" rush comes from, but that would end rather quickly for everyone.

No...and if that isn't clear enough...NO!!!! No one in the military should ever want war. It is the nastiest ugliest way for anything to get resolved and usually nothing comes out of it but death and destruction. However, it is usually inevitable and we have to prepare for it and be ready to execute the mission when it comes but no one should ever want it.

Thank you for all of your opinions Sirs and sergeants, I came on here to explain to many of my co workers and teachers that the modern military we have today face issues and have a current level headedness in today's military and to explain how we are not just war mongers but people who have issues like everyone else. I agree with all those who have stated no for the simple reason that war only brings death and nothing but loneliness. In the end thank you for your responses they helped men out a lot thank you.

Hell no. You have crazy men with the power to launch nuclear missiles. I'd rather not live to see the end of the world. That can happen when I'm long gone.

No one should be excited by the idea of war or killing. Yes it's our job and we have to do it when called to do it. But I feel like anyone who gets excited by the idea of killing and war has some issues. I luckily have never had to kill anyone in any of my deployments. Would I if I had to? Yes. Would I be excited about it? No. Any of my friends who have had to kill someone have never said they were excited about it or glad about it. I know a guy in my first unit said he had to shoot a kid one time. He hated that he had to do it (this was very early in OIF too).

War doesn't really solve anything. It just creates more conflict. War might change borders and might bring peace for a time but it will always happen again. Changing borders (as Western powers love to do) causes more conflict because we never take into account the people who live in these areas.

I would be very cautious of someone excited about WWIII happening. If it does and it's like the shit hits the fan and end of the world shit - no thanks.

No one who has ever seen war would wish to see it again, much less on a global scale.
One thing you can be sure of is that the way of life for most if not all of the planet would be forever changed.
Question is, is a world war worth all that? Or is it simply politics by other means.
I think it is unquestionable that we would win, but at the what cost?
"Excited" doesn't quite say it.
If it comes to that, this old Soldier will ruck up and do his part. For me, for my country, for my children...

SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member nobody should be excited for a war period. We are trained to do our jobs and execute them. Part of our job is deterrence. If called upon it is to destroy the enemy.

When talking to World War II veterans they either never talked about it or when they did they said it was horrible and they would never do it again. We should pray that we will never do it again, but prepare for the worst.

World War means everyone is involved, why would we want that. Looking from military side, yes it might be "cool" to squeeze the trigger and take some ones life but we need to look beyond that. PTSD after the fact and how it will affect your family and friends as well. I heard stories from WWII and trust me from my family, none of it sounded pleasant. If it wasn't for the heroism of my ancestors, I wouldn't be here right now.

Well without sounding morbid, I'd at least know my employment would be secure. But I mean the likelihood of another World War is very small. I mean what are the sides. Who is the Ally and who is the enemy.

We might have a tenuous peace with other super powers like Russia and China, but it's still peace. I mean the only one who I could see being a definitive enemy is either North Korea or the terrorist cells of the Middle East.

North Korea is a petulant child and despite their blustering, I don't see another full scale World War starting because of them. Maybe another Korean Conflict, but a World War, I don't think so.

The Middle East we've engaged in conflicts for more than a decade and despite a rise in terroristic activities, I don't see all the World Powers coming together to turn the Middle East into glass. Even if that did happen, I wouldn't see it as a World War, just a bunch of fireman putting out a long burning fire.

The only way a World War is going to happen is if we as the United States decide to forsake individual sovereignty in order to globalize the government. If a World War 3 does happen in the foreseeable future... chances are, we'll be the bad guys.

The third World War started at least as early as August 24, 1929 at Hebron in the Palestinian Mandate. One could easily argue that it started earlier, or later; but it is obvious that a small regional conflict that has been cooking for almost a century (or 1500 years) is in fact the third world war.

Terrified for my children, family, friends and their children... when the next world war ends, there is likely to be no one left standing. One silver lining might be that Nuclear Winter would likely make Climate Change irrelevant as most of the earths population died off. A world where no one lives in most of Europe, China, Russia or America where more humans live in the Southern parts of the Southern hemisphere than in the rest of the world combined.

As a front line fighter, I will tell you that I hope to never see the things I have seen before. While I stand ready to do violence on behalf of our nation, it is nothing I look forward to doing. My first deployment happened after 8 years in the Infantry. Were we excited, absolutely. After 15 years of war, we look forward to the day it ends.

Am I excited to go to new places and serve in different environments and gain new experiences? Yes.
Am I excited for a World War? No. Dude have you studied Normandy? Guadalcanal? the Bulge? Stalingrad? Gallipoli? Verdun? the Somme?
Will I serve in a World War? Yes.

To further state, I have sworn to engage the enemy in close combat and destroy them for my country. I will do that if so ordered for the people next to me, and for the people back home. Nothing about that thought makes me excited or happy.

Not only "no", but "hell no." Total War involving the entire societies of many countries would be disastrous to every aspect of life on Earth. Damage to all parties in the nuclear age would be devastating. Economies, political systems, entire cultures would be destroyed. The "winner" would be the nation with the least serious damage, which might be a state in Africa or South America that today is viewed as powerless.
