Would it benefit others if I recorded and posted me transforming my aluminum V-hull into a bass boat?

Woodworking, metallurgy, and other arts have been replaced by Twitter, Snapchat, and PlayStations. I was thinking of filming 6-7 episodes of my boat's transformation from a simple aluminum boat to a nice bass boat. I would review tools used, how to measure angles, and other "basic" skills from start to finish. This way fathers and mothers could view it and start a project with their children.

Heck yeah. Go one step further and put the series on you tube. I've actually been thinking of doing this with my flat boat. I'd watch.

It couldn't hurt. They document so many things now. I have saved a few hours on simple car repairs just by looking it up on youtube. There are also tips for routine PC upgrade and maintenance besides a host of other topics. You might find a fishing buddy or two out of the deal. You may even find your good at the presentation and that could be a niche for after you retire. So much has changed in the Military maintenance and logistics field since I retired, so for all I know the Army may have similar services online for the guys with wrenches. If not, do a beneficial suggestion and maybe score some cash out of the deal once you master it. Good luck with it either way. You are also dead on with the lost skills. Few want to get into the skilled trades. They all want to be network administrators, graphic designers, or design games for the big bucks. Many are figuring out that a degree is near worthless unless it is in the right profession, so they look down at tech training and an apprenticeship. They've likely never seen a paycheck from a union electrician, pipefitter, mechanic, or welder. The jobs are out there but may require relocation, and one can make good money once certified or licensed. It's not easy work but can be rewarding. Skilled tradesmen will always be in demand also and are becoming more scarce as the current generation leaves the workforce.

I would agree with your concept. Too many younger people have no idea how rewarding it is to create something with their hands, minds and the use of skills fading. I too love the art of woodworking, carving and building. The reward of looking at something made by your own hands, mind and heart is so much greater than the computer.

I myself love to see how other craftsman get to their finished product. Each woodworker is an artist and no two are exactly the same. Even ones own perceived failures gives another ideas and insights on something they want to do.
