Ran accross this article. 30 miles off the East Coast is pretty darn close! Interesting read and I may have to try catching the TV Special where they are talking about this!!

I just finished reading The Heart Mender by Andy Andrews. It's about the German U-boats. The book brought up some really good points about how the Germans would come on land here in the US during WWII. They would restock food and supplies and even go to the movies.

Remember at that time the US had a much larger percentage of European immigrants. There was even the German-American Bund. My family even had relatives incarcerated as POWs in Arizona.

I believe seeing a documentary that reported a liberty ship being sunk still with sight of land.

Civil Air Patrol got started doing U-boat patrols off the East Coast during WWII. There were quite a few subs off the coast for a while.
