It seems that no matter what I did, when I was just standing around, I always had at least one hand in my pocket. Usually the pocket that I had change in. God, that drove my Sergeant crazy. It was just a nervous reaction and finally, I just kept a diligent reminder not to put my hands in my pocket and it finally worked. Here was my response....

Good job well done, your promoted,,,NOT.... now, see that track behind you.. Take them baby soft hands and the other three knuckleheads in your squad that spent the last 4 hours figuring this gimmick out and helping you stuff gloves up your jacket sleeves, change those track pads. .. WHAT did you say??? Of course I know it's a three day weekend...I also know those pads have been sitting in the MP waiting on pick up for a week...You have been in the MP since 0900,,,it's 16:00 now.. and the pads still are not replaced, the rest of the platoon got theirs done I see, yet you had time to perfect your gag....I figure you owe them, the commander and I, 7 hours, we'll call it 6 since you had an hour lunch.. .. But I want to be fair... so you don't have to pay back all 6 hours today... just 2 hours today, and 2 tomorrow, and 2 Saturday.
Oh and You two..... YES YOU.. PSG and PL who stood by and let those Soldiers dick off for 6 hours and "goof" the commander and I while the rest of your platoon worked their butt off..... Both of you go get a chair, have a seat and "supervise" until the task is done.. No you can not help. You did not help them become better soldiers, help them prioritize their time, maintain the equipment as the Motor Sergeant directed..., so you can not help them learn it's better to do the job first and play later, not the other way around... I'll help with that.. you just sit and watch,,,,Yes Lieutenant you may bring them water... pretty sure the potable water spigot at the wash rack has a hose that will reach.
Oh and you other three squad leaders come here.. well done, it's tough sometimes to work first, play later,,,but you did it anyway.

1SG come over here a sec........ between you and I, if the rest of the platoon shows up to help after formation...... other than the PL and PSG, let um help... If they get it done today... Give um all a 4 day weekend, even the knuckle heads.. I was pretty impressed with the gag, and if they pull together as a team...getting the job done, I think the message has been made. Tell the PL and PSG I'll be seeing them on Monday for PT, no they do NOT get the 4 day.
