Our volunteer military has worked out very well, but has led to less civilian appreciation of what serving is all about. Now that there will be no distinction of gender amongst Infantry "persons" or any other military job, we should re-examine our policy on National Service. Young women should be expected to fulfill a national service obligation just the same as young men. I suppose this not necessarily have to lead to women in combat roles. This might include the Peace Corps or more relevant to the Nation include national service in schools, hospitals, and other critical civilian jobs. Young men who do not meet all the physical requirements of armed service could also be plugged into the civilian service as well. Both men and women would then benefit and contribute along with those in military uniform. This might tend to draw more folks into good civic and citizen awareness. Besides, what's good for the guys should be good for the gals. http://www.military.com/daily-news/2015/10/12/women-likely-have-register-draft-army-secretary-says.html?ESRC=army-a_151209.nl

Women Will Likely Have to Register for the Draft, Army Secretary Says

Women will probably have to register for the draft as the military becomes more gender-neutral, Army Secretary John McHugh said.

LTC Martin Metz Thu, 10 Dec 2015 19:15:23 -0500 2015-12-10T19:15:23-05:00 2015-12-03T18:46:53-05:00
