On all fronts. We are over-populating a world never intended for so many of us. We are trying to cease all natural selection and it will be our ultimate, ugly demise. Dinosaurs ruled the planet for about 170 million years, human like beings have been around for less than 3 million years. It remains to be seen if we will wipe ourselves out, or if we will move beyond this planet to begin colonizing other worlds. I'm really hoping for the later instead of the former, however I'm not sure human greed and arrogance is something we can overcome. As we grow in population, the more conflict we will experience. Think of Earth as an island. Paupau New Guinea. We will war over food when supplies dwindle and some will migrate off the island. harmony and balance will be restored as the Earth can only sustain so many people and other living beings. The dinosaurs were wiped out by a cataclysmic event. Hopefully we won't create our own before we have a chance to evolve a greater intelligence. It all starts at home. Not sure I want to touch that one. But if one is of a religious mind to find design to the order of the universe, I'm not one to stand in the way. I have my own beliefs too, and I don't find they interfere with my belief in scientific validity. But with specific regard to what "nature intends" I don't believe nature, in and of itself, intends anything for us. As we advance as a species, we have warded off diseases that would have been a death sentence generations ago. But for every disease we can treat a new one steps in to take it's place. Then we have homosexuality which by nature's law is meant to be an evolutionary dead end. Then there are the couples who choose not to procreate who thin themselves out of the gene pool willingly. We might not see it or recognize it, but evolution is continuing to happen. Now whether the evolutionary path we take is good or bad remains to be seen. We may be living much longer lives than our ancestors, but obesity seems to be much more prevalent these days. Not to mention our penchant for scientific experimentation. We could end up evolving to the point where humans resemble the people from Wall-E or wiping ourselves out from an experiment gone wrong like 28 Days Later. But like Ian Malcolm said... life finds a way.
