The current political climate is more polarizing than ever. Simple right or wrong issues and basic facts are furiously debated. I'm not sure if we can move forward as a unified country with two separate evenly distributed core belief systems. Would everyone be satisfied if the country somehow peacefully split. Who gets the kids in the divorce?

I would fight tooth and nail before I see our great nation split. With that said, we are a stronger nation than most realize or accept

The loud liberals who are against President Trump aren't fighters. They don't have the strong will to take the step of making a total split. They look to Gandhi as the to seek independence when historically Washington is they was to true independence.

It also seems a vocal few make all the noise, many are paid agitators, the rest of us need to join together and preserve our status as Americans. Those that do not allow others to speak and think for themselves are never our friends no matter what their view. I like the statement, "I may not agree with what You say but I'll fight to the death to preserve Your right to say it!" Those that try to stop any of us from expressing ourselves are not friends of any of us as Americans. You rights don't include abusing the rights of others. Sgt Wallace, I agree, We are stronger than some seem to think.

The main difference is, for 8 years conservatives lived with Obama and his agenda, moaned groaned and complained but live with it. Once the liberals lost they threw a temper tantrum and acted out. It doesn't help by all reports that some of this was orchestrated and paid for.

If anything, I hope this election has shown us that our election process is either broken or outdated. If we move towards a tiered-voting system, people can vote for third-party candidates without having to worry about their vote being "wasted." This will inevitably break us out of the two-party rut we're currently mired in.

Additionally, Congressional term limits will further breathe new life into the government.

Term limits don't make sense. It takes experience to become a politician, you can't be effective at your job in just 4 years. The problem isn't term limits the issue is voting. Nobody votes they just do straight tickets and many politicians get back elected by gerrymandering.

SPC (Join to see) - I disagree. Terms limits are exactly what we need to get the corporate money out of politics (or limited). The government was never set up to have "career politicians." The "politicians" were supposed to be representatives of the people - they were supposed to be business owners who came for their terms and acted as a voice of the people; they were supposed to be farmers, laborers, doctors, lawyers, and every other type of productive worker who came, did their service to the nation as a representative, and then went back to their jobs. Efficiency was never meant to be a focus of the government. Heck, it's set up to be very inefficient - on purpose.

I'd also argue that you CAN be effective at your job in four years. Look as the military, as an example, we move around jobs all the time. Today I'm a planner. A year ago I was a Brigade Communications Officer. Before that I was a Signal Systems Integration Officer. Before that, a Company Commander... and so on. Being good at your job is less about knowing the ins and outs and more about having a solid foundation of experience with which to make informed decisions based on information; it's the ability to analyze data and evaluate sources to determine what is best for your unit or group or nation.

Career politicians, by definition, have a vested interest in getting re-elected. That becomes their priority. They lose sight of their actual responsibilities when the goal is just to be re-elected. Decisions that are good for the long-term are shelved in interest of high-profile decisions that may benefit people today - or for the next election cycle - but which ultimately hurt in the big picture.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - I couldn't agree more Maj. I have been saying for years politics was never meant to be a career but rather a "service." We have lost sight of the founders intent when they said "a government of the people, by the people and for the people..."

We were sprinting toward the abyss before we changed direction on Nov 20th. I am now full of hope for the first time in 8 years.

We were not.spinning.towards any abyss. We just elected the same kind of scum that my dad walked across Europe fighting in the 1940s. We are becoming what our father's fought to stop.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr Your dad fought against socialism, not knowing that the nazi's were socialists is just laziness on your part. We just turned away from that model. On top of Hitler stating that they were socialists, the word nazi is an acronym for German Socialist workers party, its right in the name. On top of that, see if any of this sounds familiar. The nazis, were for gun control, feel free to ask a Holocaust survivor why. They were also for nationalized health care, they nationalized heavy industry like the car companies. See GM and Chrysler here. What other part of your history homework would you like me to do for you?

Cpl Joshua Caldwell - the Nazi party started out as a socialist party but that all ended when the facists k I'll ed of the socialists on the "night of the long knives" From then on the Nazis were just another facist and authoritarian group run by thugs. That description also applies to Trump.

The fascists were just another name for socialists, just like modern America where we call them progressives. The knight of the long knives did not get rid of the socialists, it got rid of Hitlers competition for leadership of the party. The confusion comes from the Nazi relationship with the communists, who had the same basic platform but an international take on how government should run, the nazis were pure nationalists, and nationalism and strong veteran support was their strength. They were slightly to the right of the communists, but even to the left of EU type socialists. Their actions follow the socialist playbook to the core.
