With the constant bombardment of political, religious, and personal opinion rants/threads/posts, is RP becoming the new Facebook?

I have nothing against political, religious, and personal opinion rants/threads/posts but, it is irritating having to weed through all the above mentioned issues to get to the military questions Service Members ask. I thought RP was a Social Media Site where we come together as a community to share and network our military knowledge, passing along what we know to the next generation of leaders.

We're keeping an eye on those threads. If they are legitimate questions that are meant to spur good conversation or to inform others, we'll leave them up. If not, and they're only meant to stir up trouble, we'll convert them (to an update) or suppress them (off the main board). If you see something out of line, let one of us admins know, and we'll take a look at it.

For comments within threads, that is a little tougher. If they're clearly out of line, we'll delete them. However, we won't kill a legitimate thread just because a few knuckleheads can't be professional on the boards. We'll have to handle those people individually. Just let us know if you see something awry. We definitely want RP to be a good experience.

Of course we share many of the same interests and concerns with those who don't serve or haven't served. However, our point of view is often quite different and we generally interact with more respect than we might with some anonymous troll on the Internet.

I don't know that but with the constant attacks on FB, I just deactivated my account. No one hates like a liberal especially when they have just lost an election.

I expect it will die down in a month or two. I still value this crowd far more than I do FB...which I don't value at ALL.

So I would think they would be able to build a TAG filter for you to hide the Politically tagged posts.

Agree there is a lot of truth to what you say; the site has gotten more and more political, religious, cultural opinion outlet and other miscellaneous issues-oriented over the past year. The first thing I do on logging in is to scroll down 'Blocking this Post' until I delete every one of the offending posts. I have become quite proficient at it and doesn't take much time Then I can concentrate on the variety of military and other issues and people which interest me and which I like to comment on. Very few people sharing personal opinions and beliefs have any objective or critical thinking or points to offer to back up their posts. Highly questionable, prejudicial, biased and dubious sources are quoted and reprinted on a wholesale basis.

Absolutely! Case in point. Yesterday was Veterans Day(duh I know everyone knows that). Instead of having good stories of the day it was one non stop MORE politics, bashing etc. Geez can't we give it a rest for one flipping day.......

Personally it doesn't bother me much. I just scroll down until i find a post that interests me, like flipping through channels on the TV. And our esteemed Mod's have a good grip on things anyway.

Now if we start getting inundated with cat video's and photo's of food, then we got a problem.

I do have a FB account, with minimal information in it and no friends. I use it strictly to be able to post comments on news sites, since some only allow comments if you have a FB account. Other than that i despise FB.

@SFC Jonathan Settle No...I do not feel that RP is becoming like FB.. FB has advertisements...and re-psoting of posts...statements, sayings....posters...poems......and photos....etc....and though similar to RP...PR is quite different.....

RP has different Topics/Issues to post threads...Therefore you or anyone else can choose the topic/threads/discussions you wish to read or be involved with.....Just because a lot of the posts are Political doesn't make it Non Military...it is a legitimate concern of many Military members/Veterans. If you don't like these threads, then stick to reading only the Military topics or threads....

Fear not, activity on RP fluctuates almost seasonally. I have noticed an ebb and flow that is almost like the tides. People will post what is important to them as it becomes relevant. Many posted political items because they were invested in the process and rightfully concerned....I be one of those. However as a community, we will be "issue driven" and remain fairly robust provided we fallow the rules of common decency. As LTC Kevin Broom, PHD, pointed out the staff of RP is pretty much on top to those FB type behaviors which detract from our collective experience.

Rally Point has gone to far on the Political bombardment on our Pres. Elect Mr. Trump like SSG Jessica Bautista posting negative comments about our soon to be commander in Chief, I think she get a kick out and like to piss off RP members and like to see how far she can get. Like I said before people come RP to hide because they won't do it in an open forum. Rally Point, it is to late you have become another FB because people are posting things about their boats and their cats, what is this? We just go on with our everyday lives like it is nothing. But that what FB is for posting crap and the where you belong SSG.
Everyday I log on to do my daily blog I nothing but negative things about Mr. Trump and most of them are from service members, Go figure.

We are stuck with politics because so many people are impassioned by it, and there is much hate. It gets out of hand when the banter devolves into name calling and insults. Many people will resort to attacking the other poster instead of attacking the topic.
