They all recommend going in as another slot like a 18B or 18C and then going back later down the road because not only in the delta course the one everyone wants but once you become a delta you’re needed. So it’s better to Q in another MOS and then later request to go to the delta course because 1) you’re already tabbed 2) you then have two SF MOS’ and are more valuable. I had outstanding scores in the 130s and 140s and was already a 68W, I picked 18D and ended up receiving 18E.
Hope you get your first choice. There is a mountain of evaluation and medical training as individuals progress through the process. As an EMT I can say that I do not hold a candle to a rested combat medic. I recommend that you seek the MOS or enter as open 18 series and go from there. Again there is nothing wrong with requesting. Thank you for your service. When I came in to 19th SFG back in 1999, they told me they needed 18Es and 18Ds. I hate needles, so I took the 18E slot. That being said, you generally have the leeway to choose whichever MOS you want to do. 18D is the most mentally difficult school in the SFQC, so be prepared for that when you go (if you make it through selection).

DO NOT go in for a different MOS thinking that you'll just come back for 18D like SPC BALL recommends. #1 That is actually pretty rare in SF. #2 That is entirely dependent on funding being available. #3 There are plenty of other options for training you will rather do once you're on an ODA. MOST dudes got their #1 pick. A few didn't. That percentage is even worst when it comes to target language and group. I would not do what SPC Ball recommends. Once you get to group, it's very unlikely to go back through and qualify as another MOS as retention is a bit tough as it is and teams are short. If you make selection, put your wish list and hope you get it. I was discharged or left high level jobs before being fired because of unpredictable disruptive behavior. I didn’t reup because even at 23 I saw that my occupation as a Special Ops soldier was not for a family man and was very dangerous maybe at times sucidial. Would I do it again .. Yes. Would I recommend entering Spec Ops as a citizen soldier ( 1 or 2 enlistments) not as a career .. absolutely NO !
