Sure. Are we close? I don't think so. I'm currently reading about the Civil War and what led up to it. The years leading up to 1860 were way worse than it is today. You could clearly see the battle lines being drawn back then. The south was constantly threatening to secede. Pro-slavery and anti-slavery groups were attacking each other years before the first shots of the Civil War were actually fired. A member of congress was beaten with a cane...by another congressman..in the Capitol building. So yeah, I think we could get there one day but I think we'll see more and more violence between whatever the sides are pick up well in advance. There is a lot of fake news out there and both sides have fringe elements, but we are not close to a revolution. Even a peaceful dissolution. Just consider the deployment of military assets in the US. Nukes, bases & troop concentrations, to name a few. These are not creators but destroyers, all they can do is ruin things.

The likelihood of anything like a civil war I still think is slim. This violence it seems to be forgotten by many, has been around for close to a year and remains a fringe movement. Nations have survived far worse then a noisy rabble and partisan media ranting for attention.
