Some very familiar names, including a couple of past president's. Using this as a club is downright dumb. The only reason our entire country isn' t Bankrupt is we can print fiat currency and raise the credit card ceiling. How many of the general public lost money on Trump's bankruptcy? How many employees does he have now? Our debtors ARE predominantly the public.

This election year is the craziest I have every seen. But to answer this, understand that our country is more divisive now then when Obama took office, There may be more racial tension, but the major discrimination is between republicans and democrats. The democrats put up a few poor selections, although I think Web may have been alright, and the republicans threw a couple dozen names in the hat, or close to it. At this point, the question is between Trump and Hillary, who do you think will better serve our nation. If you want to say that Hillary has not been convicted of any crimes yet, then you shouldn't be concerned about Trump. If you want to evaluate questionable actions of Trump, then you need to compare those up to the questionable actions of Hillary. Then side by side, list the prison term for each charge and see who would go to jail the longest. Filing bankruptcy say what you want, is not a criminal act, and is used all the time.

I'm no fan of either candidate.
Why do some consider Trump successful? I guess it depends on what criteria you are measuring from....if its dollars in the bank account, he is way more successful than I will probably ever become. if your metric is successful versus bankrupt businesses, then it is whatever those numbers are - I, myself, have no bankrupt businesses, but then again, I don't have any successful ones either.
Also consider, how are we defining a business as successful - many businessmen don't see bankruptcy as a failure, but as an option....a protection.
Also, Trump is a self promoter and a salesman of himself - imagine what his evaluation support form would look like!!

Ray Kroc failed and went bankrupt.

Steve Jobs was fired from the company he started then returned to raise it to be the most valuable company in the world.

I understand that he or his corporation filed for bankruptcy however, at this point for me to believe that he is not a success runs contrary to the paradigm.

You might as well claim that Warren Buffett, George Soros, and the Koch Brothers are business failures. Because they've all owned companies that have gone into bankruptcy court.

Anyone who tries to claim that Donald Trump is not a successful business man is either delusional or is using a definition of "successful" that it far outside the norm. The Donald owns or has owned "dozens" of individual companies; of which only four have gone bankrupt or been reorganized through bankruptcy court. He also has personal assets worth somewhere between 1 and 11 Billion Dollars. I tend to think that after the couple million...your successful.

You mean aside from the fact that he's still wealthy. He's also charismatic. Like him or hate him, he knows how to play to a crowd. I once heard someone say that anyone can make a million dollars...all you have to do is three things: 1) Come up with an idea that works, 2) Be willing to take risks, and 3) Be willing to do anything to make it work. I laughed that off, so the guy gave me an example. He said, "Ok, try this...stand on a corner with a can that says, 'Hungry...$1'. How many people will pass you in say, a ten hour period? Hundreds...maybe thousands? Let's say if a thousand people pass by, and half put a dollar in your can...you just earned more in one day than most do all week. Yes-there's risks; someone might insult you, even assault you...then, there's the cops. Still, there's always someone willing to give the paltry sum of one dollar to feel 'good' about themselves. Finally, you've got to accept the fact that you're lying to them...you've got a home, a car, decent clothes, and can work a 9-5; but you've got to 'sell' the idea that you're broke, down to your last straw, and need help...no one's going to put a dollar into your can if you're wearing a suit."

The Donald knows all of this, and it's how he's got a tower with a big, gold "T" on it. I think he's using the same three things now: 1) He knows Americans are tired of "status quo" and limp little politicians with awkward catch-phrases. 2) He's willing to take insults, spend money, and take on the whole system to get what he wants. 3) There's no way even half of what's coming out of his mouth is his "real" platform...wait and see.

how about going from 1 Million (which had to be paid back) to 4.5 Billion. He is obviously doing something right.

If he was not a successful businessman, he would still be trying to make the failed businesses work. There is nothing wrong with trying something, and then cutting your losses when it doesn't take. That's called risk. Every single businessman faces it.

If I gave you 1 million dollars, could you turn it into 4.5 Billion? If you think you can, what is your plan to do so? Good luck!

449,900% increase from his initial loan sounds pretty successful to me. Or if you believe the new numbers of Trumps wealth being around 2Billion then it's only an increase of 199,900%, I guess I can understand why he's clearly a failure.

Tell you what, if I give you $10 and you turn it into $1,999,000 I will let you slide on your assertion that Donald Trump is not a successful businessman.

Let's say that it's because of other peoples work that he made the money, cause that point has been made. He still had to find the right people, allow himself to be taken out of leadership and trust these people to grow his bottom line. Which, is part of being a successful business owner. You understand and compensate for any weakness you have, and find someone who is good at it.

Then again, it depends on what you define as successful. If you don't go by bottom line and instead with some other definition that most people don't, then I have no idea what you are talking about.

I think a man who is worth billions and has buildings that bear his name all over the world is successful. People who say he is a failure are clearly ignoring his accomplishments.
