PO3 John Jeter 734386

I do not believe this will be a short term commitment. We spent decades in Europe and the far east after WWII propping up govt. structures that held up in times of adversity. If we're not prepared to make this commitment I would rather not waste our people or resources. Will we actually be allowed to train up & SUPPORT Iraqi forces this time to stand up to ISIS? Or are we wasting our efforts, AGAIN? 2015-06-08T20:38:59-04:00 PO3 John Jeter 734386

I do not believe this will be a short term commitment. I just don't think we were successful in giving them and/or bringing out their own will to fight. The fact that they won't defend themselves now is a reflection of their failure, not ours. Now a ragtag band of pirates are a legitimate threat to overrun Baghdad.

I hate to say it, but it might be time to eat some popcorn and watch ISIS (terrorist jihadis) fight Iranians (apocalyptic hegemons). We can deal appropriately with whichever victor emerges, battered and bloody. Sucks for the Iraqis, but they made their bed. There's only so much training and support you can give when the Iraqis are willing to retreat from defensible positions, with a significant advantage in firepower and personnel, and leave behind equipment the American government has given them.

Personal opinion? It's time to leave this region.
