My personal vote is neither. Ironically Speaker Boehner tried to get some republicans to agree and push forward some of the president's moves but also countered others. I don't think this will have much impact realistically.

Since President Obama is a lame duck President, the announcement of of the resignation of House Speaker John Boehner will not help President Obama. John Boehner tried hard to work with the administration even though his positions differed significantly from many of the President's public positions on significant issues.
The next Speaker will likely be less conciliatory with the administration. In that sense I expect there will be some more games of chicken between Congress and the Administration before the end of the year.

"Neither" would be my guess. It's not like the House has done anything at all over the past five years, other than passing meaningless political legislation that only serves to help their campaigns. All of their bills have died in the Senate, with the exception of those CR or appropriation bills that fund basic government functions.

I think that Mr. Boehner's resignation has more to do with him trying to pick up a shit covered stick by the clean end. On one side he has the hard line conservatives saying no compromise, no matter what. On the other side he is, as the speaker of the house, the one who is supposed to be guiding the body toward compromise that is in the best interest of the nation. When it got to be too much, he decided to step down. I just wonder if it was the pressure from his party, his conscience, or the stress of it that finally put him over the edge.

If anything I hope this gets Hillary canned and incarcerated. She took down Nixon and often talked about the appearance of wrong-doing, but she never took responsibility for her own actions. If Obama is covering then he too must pay.

Short term (up to Oct 30), possibly; depends on what Boehner brings to the floor and whether/how the Hastert rule is enforced. After that, probably more of the same.

That depends on who follows him. If its another spineless, go-along to get along establishment type than this won't hurt Obama at all. If, however, his successor is a Tea Party type of guy, particularly if he's at least somewhat politically savvy, then he can make things difficult for Obama.

It depends on who takes the Speaker's seat. It also depends on the movement to oust McConnell also.

I am going to take a shot at this question and say it will help Obama. If McCarthy does succeed Boehner he may be able to work better with Pelosi & Obama .. Pelosi and Boehner were unable to work together on just about everything since Pelosi lost the Speaker's job to him.. But I could be way off base because there may not be a Republican in congress who can work with Pelosi..

hmmm .... seem like not many people really read into why he "resign" completely. anyway, let see who replace him then we can answer the question. If those who kicked out Boehner get their way? the fight will be tougher. Shut down will be longer and I believe if they get their way? they will fight one piece of funding at a time until one side give up.

SPC Andrew Griffin, No, it will not help the POTUS. Although I am not a fan of Speaker Boehner nor most of the politicians in Washington DC, as you well know Representative Boehner worked diligently on compromises along with Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid and the President on numerous legislative efforts, but the partisan politics by both Democrats and Republicans thwarted most of his efforts to reach across the Aisle. These partisan divides will continue I fear until we have new leadership in both Chambers and the Oval office.

Bro, you have a serious thing for these type of questions! I can dig it. I don't think it'll help IMO. I'd much rather have the evil I know beside me rather (Boehner) than the evil I don't (everyone else to include his own party) waiting to come in. Granted it's less than 18mos before a new President is voted in, but that's still a lot of time to argue over everything, get nothing done (as usual) and continue the infighting the republicans have going on right now. I'm just going to get my bag of extra buttery popcorn ready and watch the next 16mos go by. It should be good. BTW does anyone think McConnell will retire too? Maybe Pelosi?
