Additionally with the confirmation that U.S.backed Syrian rebels (New Syrian Forces) surrendered American arms to al Nusra (an Al Qaeda offshoot) the Pentagon responded with "We can’t control every situation that these fighters encounter". While both groups are fighting Assad It appears evident that the current strategy in place in dealing with Assad and ISIS has come to a crux. With Russia ready to launch air strikes on rebel forces in Syria has this deal undermined our efforts in Syria or do we stand our ground like we did in Afghanistan when the Russians invaded and continue the resistance effort? He knows its going to take ground troops to get rid of ISIL, He also is positioning Russia to have a large influence over matters in the Middle East which does not bode well for the US relations with these countries. We need to get back in game or we are going lose more than influence in the Middle East. Which is more of a threat right now, Assad or ISIS/ISIL/IS? I'd say ISIS. We might just have to partner with people we don't like to take down ISIS then move back to dealing with Assad.
