Will the Army let me continue to serve, or will I be medically retired, after having a medical device put in my body?

A medical procedure call dorsal root ganglion or DRG for short will be put in my body. I just wanted to know will the Army let me continue to serve with 7 years left until I retire or will I be medical retire? The doctor told me if I was Air Force I would be medical retire. But he couldn’t tell me about the Army side.

I suspect it depends on your job/MOS and whether the Army feels you can continue to do it after the surgery.

SSG Ervin Williams AR 40-501 would tell you. Chapter 3 is the Retentiôn chapter.
