In this push China has been aggressively pursuing island-reclamation activities in the Spratly Islands which will give China the ability to project force from these reclaimed features. The tensions are high and could easily escalate quickly between the US and China especially when one's actions based on threat assessments look suspicious or a lack clarity regarding the other’s strategic intentions. Are we being hypocritical as we have bases around the world or are we playing it smart with an escalation of force approach?
