The United States has arguably, been at war 220 out of 238 years of it's entire existence. In fact, none of our Presidents truly qualify as a peacetime president as we have never gone a decade without a war. The only time we've gone five years without a war was during the Great Depression (1935 – 1940) when we couldn't afford to fight! No U.S. president truly qualifies as a peacetime president.
