Just recently this whole thing finally ended with the result of getting it reduced to reckless driving. will this keep me or make it difficult for me to get into law enforcement? also, I'm on probation for 12 months. There may be a certain amount of time that has to pass in order to be considered. You'll have to speak with the recruitment team, human resources of that organization. Be straightforward and honest with them. I know guys that had offenses and still made it into law enforcement. Most agencies have a timeframe from when the DUI occurred. You also need to get a drivers history to see what can be expunged.
Each agency will have their own policy on if they will hire with a DUI on your history. My agency used to not hire younif you had any but now we will. I’m not sure what time frame we look for. Other agencies will allow you to work on your DUI permit... it just depends. Ask the agency you are looking at and see what they say. Different agencies have different rules. Tell them the truth and let them know up front. If you lie about any of it or you try to hide it, your toast. And they will find out. There is no way of getting around it, the DUI will be brought up.. either with them digging into what led up to the reckless driving during the interview, polygraph, or background investigation. You're best bet is to call up the department you're looking into and ask them up front, it'll save you and them time. For our law enforcement you can have Two DUI. You do not have a DUI you have a reckless driving. Now if they ask if you were charge for one you will say yes and be able to explain what happen. Just apply each agency has different rules. SGT Private RallyPoint Member Thu, 26 Sep 2019 15:40:42 -0400 2019-09-26T15:40:42-04:00 2019-04-19T18:36:22-04:00
