The Army needs the capability. The Air Force controlling an Airborne division would be giving them a bunch of unneeded responsibility with little benefit to their mission set. Airborne operations are a skill. It simply means that an infantry or other arms soldier or SM can safely conduct airborne operations whether at day or night. <br /><br />These are joint operations that are conducted in conjunction with the Air Force. The Air Force doesn’t own battle space. 99.9% of their service life, paratroopers have zero interaction with the Air Force. The other .01% they are jumping. Simple infil platform.
