The current tenant of the Oval Office is a Liberal Democrat. LibDems hate the military.

CPT Ahmed Faried, I never mentioned Senator Hagel's party affiliation because I didn't consider it relevant. Instead, I offered him as "a primo example of a liberal who does not hate the military."

Some of us remember back when a Republican president named Richard Nixon advanced some progressive social policies, while Senator Sam Ervin (renowned for chairing the Senate Select Committee to Investigate Campaign Practices, a.k.a. the "Watergate Committee") used to boast that he stood to the right of everyone except his mother. There used to be ample other examples of liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats, such as presidential hopeful George Wallace, but both parties seem to have slowly purged themselves of the minority viewpoints they consider impure.

If it was up to military commanders, our budget would be five times higher and we would be at perpetual war in order to ensure the money kept rolling in. We are relevant so long as we are at war. It's our political capital. Military commanders provide a good tactical perspective, but that doesn't mean it's in the best interest of the nation as a whole...

Basically it's be like asking the CEO of Marlboro his opinion on the regulation of tobacco products...

A President, any President is not obligated to listen to advisors. At the end of the day they are the ones making the decisions and responsible for the resultant successes and failures. You'd recall some generals were advising against our Invasion of Iraq, what ended up happening?
