Why is it so many of you never take the time to find out what a thread is about before you comment?

I have finally learned just how many out there take the time to read/watch video/listen to posted threads before commenting. I posted a link which said one thing, but there was a very important(I thought) peace of information in it, yet no one too the time to listen to it. It was in the thread about Joe Biden going going to enter the race. Not one listened to the podcast in the post.

I believe there's information overload (it's the age of technology). If you feel something is important, don't make people search for it. State it in your post, up front, so it's not missed. And, thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, a number of people on here have very strong political leanings, and they will use any/every opportunity to articulate (project) those leanings to (onto) others. They will do so regardless of the underlying content of the particular post. They just saw Biden, and ran with it. It happened on another Petraeus post, where the topic was spun onto an anti-Hillary rant. I suspect that it will get worse as we approach the election.

I remember i started a thread about referring to Leaders as pay grade versus rank. Only one person, an Army SSG, actually understood what I meant. Everyone else ranted based on the most popular comments. I usually try to redirect others' answers back to my original intent before it gets out of hand. If that doesn't work, I usually just ignore everyone until someone actually acknowledges that I've said most have misunderstood. Many just don't care. Some want to be heard. Some want points.

Being at the office, there are many links (any audio or video) that I can't get to. In those cases I will reply only if the poster wrote something to reply to.

SGM Mikel Dawson, We live in a "McWorld." Too much information to digest and we want instant gratification for little effort. The give-it-to-me-now mentality has retarded our attention spans. We just see the question and barge into the answer... really no reason to read either.

Did you do your due diligence to make the linked podcast relative? Did you provide a lead in that enticed the reader to leave this site and listen to a podcast? Did you help the reader understand and WANT to listen to the podcast?
Brevity counts. If your opinion or position is not supported immediately by what the reader can see in front of them.. you have failed if your goal was to get them to listen to you further.

SGM Mikel Dawson I agree, this happens often. I think there are some who respond to the headline and don't take time to read the posters thoughts either and there, a few who comment just to be the first to respond for points, and some who want to put forth their opinion without considering any information. There are times when I post without adding a comment or simply stating the facts, because I don't want to influence the reader and am looking for an honest reply. An honest reply however cannot be based on reading the headline alone. Make that a part of our lead in statement. Here are the facts (list facts), what do you think about this situation? or simply What do you think about this situation?.

Usually I consider the source, not the individual, but the reference itself. Seldom open anything that could potentially carry a virus or Trojan.

I hear you SGM. I've posted very harmless discussions and people troll the hell out of it without reading the paragraph below the title. Maybe a little laziness is involved with people not reading the rest because it may be very "wordy." And they just draw their own conclusions from the title. Judging books by their title per say.

Even outside of RP, if I see a news article that I want to read, if it has a video or other multi media I don't watch that part. I read the article and if there is no print article I move on. I don't like watching rebroadcasts and such. I just want to read the printed article.

I usually view the links and listen to them videos/audio files/podcasts before I comment. However, as far as the thread, I ignore what others say, and I give my responses to the original question or statement posted. I'm not on here to banter with others, but rather to share and request the wisdom and life experiences that we as individuals have obtained over the span of our respective lives.
