Why in the last ten years do you think the Morale of the Service Member has dropped? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/why-in-the-last-ten-years-do-you-think-the-morale-of-the-service-member-has-dropped <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Since I have become Commander of the American Legion I talk to former servicemen and Women or current ones that are in and in doing so they all have that I want to get out now and poor Morale. I have been wondering why that is. Does anyone care to elaborate on possibilities? As a result, the level of incompetence in our leadership ranks is massive. That leads to a pretty horrible working environment for everyone.<div><br></div><div>It's great that we are now talking about raising the standards and flushing out the dead wood, but it will be a generation or two before we fix the GWOT's legacy of quantity over quality.</div> SFC Michael Hasbun Mon, 18 Nov 2013 19:48:20 -0500 2013-11-18T19:48:20-05:00 Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 18 at 2013 7:52 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/why-in-the-last-ten-years-do-you-think-the-morale-of-the-service-member-has-dropped?n=7779&urlhash=7779 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Frustrations with the system, with politics and how everything is being affected, and with toxic leadership. Toxic Leadership. I have may great NCO's in my platoon, but one was battlefield promoted and in my mind along with many others, he wasn't ready to become an NCO. He has no leadership abilities and if you end up on his bad list, which doesn't take much, watch out.<br /><br />2. Poor communication. When a joe is told 6 different things and no one has a clue what is going on, it just adds to the frustration and therefore drops the morale. Being at work all day and them an hour before release being told you have CQ or Staff Duty all night, is not the way to go about it.<br /><br />3. Lower Standards. When everyone is basically allowed in and what you end up with is a bunch of incompetent Soldiers and you are left wondering how they even tie their own shoes let alone can be trusted to complete miniscule tasks, as a leader, it also adds to the frustration.
