NBC understands that viewers have options (CBS & ABC) and they need to maintain, or at least appear to maintain the public trust.

Fox realizes that for the "conservative viewer" there really aren't any options, so why would they suspend O'Reilly?

CNN has had several reporter issues so I suspect it is as much about the internal culture as with Fareed Zakaria, et al. They simply don't see it as that big of an issue.

George Stephanopoulos may be to politically connected for ABC to feel comfortable about doing anything more than they have. Ekblad to be totally truthful, I am more surprised that NBC dropped the hammer on Williams than I am that others don't face the music. News has become less and less about providing information, and more and more about slant. Sensationalism is all the rage. That sensationalism is increased if it supports their political leanings. The problem is that the outlets themselves cannot hold a news anchor accountable for "inaccurate" statements when that is exactly what they want. If I tell you that I want stories that support my world view, and you don't do that, you will be fired. If you do exactly that, then I fire you it makes me a hypocrite, and more practically opens me up to litigation. So like I said above, I am surprised that Williams was hammered at all.
