Why does the Army insist on adding "Army" to the name of uniforms and equipment?

Army Service Uniform (ASU), Army Combat Uniform (ACU), Army Combat Shirt (ACS), Army Combat Pants (ACP), Army Aircrew Combat Uniform (A2CU), Army Combat Helmet (ACH), Army Combat Boots (ACB), Army Combat Gloves (ACG), Army Mountaineering Kit (AMK), Army Physical Fitness Uniform (APFU), Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT), Army Body Composition Program (ABCP), Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP), Army Continuing Education System (ACES), Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP), Army Battle Command System (ABCS), Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP), Army Wounded Warrior Program (AW2), Army Readiness Management System (ARMS), etc, etc, Army etc... Narcissism maybe?

The Air Force isn't quite as bad, but they did go to the Airman Battle Uniform(ABU) vs. the good ole Battle Dress Uniform(BDU). :)

Or, maybe we think it's funny that everyone but the Marines are wearing our uniforms and want to be sure they know it?

I just feel the redundancy is ridiculous. I believe the practice also violates the KISS principle and is counter to Army writing principles. (redundant modifier, needless repetition, etc.)

Because we love the Army, love to say Army, and it is bonus when we can get a Sailor to say Army. Probably also to ensure we only wear Army stuff and not lesser quality Navy, Air Force and Marine gear.
