Why do we let celebrities tell us who to vote for?

What makes these entertainers or other celebrities tell us whom to vote for? What makes them so omnipotent?

Because most people are sheep and would rather be too lazy to educate themselves and let celebrities dictate their thinking.

I wish I could find a clip of Truman Capote's appearance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson when he pronounced that all actors are stupid. When Johnny offered him a chance to retract the statement, Truman went on to add that the better actors are even more stupid. He returned to the Tonight Show to defend his position against George C. Scott (an excellent actor) and demonstrated the truth of his claim with Mr Scott's help. Keep in mind that the only actual requirement of celebrity is to be known. Once the cameras are pointed in their direction they read scripts (some smart person's ideas and words). Any thoughts of their own only get in the way. Bottom line is that I don't let celebrities tell me who to vote for. But I understand why the masses listen. A celebrity is like a cow with a bell hanging from its neck. The other cattle simply follow the sound of the bell. The cow with the bell isn't any smarter than any other coe. In fact, it was dumb enough to allow some smart guy to hang a bell on it...

I don't. I think that it's a generalization to assume that anyone does. I think what annoys me about the entire thing is that celebrities ASSUME that anyone listens to them at all. The ego is an amazing thing.

They have not told me anything except that many of them need to learn how to keep their vote to themselves and truly honor the system. Truly a celeb makes it their job to make others believe in their character or theme for whatever they are selling today. People are sometimes shocked when running into their favorites as the REAL person is noting like the characters they play. Not everyone can be a Gary Sinise.........

LT. Some celebrities stand on their own and are very respective of the military. They donate time and money to the cause. They are rare but some do. Raymond Burr comes to mind, Lt Dan is another. But the most are so full of crap that Thay show very little smarts. I can't think of one I would ask voting advise from. Hats off to the Hollywood supporters of the military.

We shouldn't, many are shallow idiotic individuals consumed with their own sense of self importance. We, as a society, elevate them to a pedestal based on their fame and talent. Neither are indicators of wisdom or a higher intelligence level. We should evaluate candidates and select those who share our ideas or ideals and vote accordingly.

I don't let anyone tell me who to vote for. You choose to listen or not to listen to people opinions but that should not mean you choose to let someone tell you who to vote for.

To which I respond who is this we you reference? Im not influenced in the slightest by any celebrities for anything, toothpaste to voting options.

To which I respond, many folks are sheep....they look for someone to tell them what to do so they do not have to think to hard, do research, make decisions,,just follow the leader

Because those who look to the said celebrities as idols or mentors will do anything they tell them to do. Social Media can sway anyone if they play the cards right. I have a few favorite actors and actresses but I don't let them persuade me to vote for their respected candidate.

For better or worse, celebrities have their fingers closer to the pulse of Americans than either candidate does. They are influential and can reach the masses quicker than a press release thanks to social media. Politicians are not the only people that recognize the power of influence celebrities bring. Organizations and businesses have been doing this for years. If the right celebrity is seen with your brand on, your sales and support can go through the roof.

However, when it comes to political races, it is still up to the voting public to do their research into each candidate's stance on the subjects that are important to them. No one person or news outlet should be your sole source of making your decision in two weeks.

We unfortunately live in a celebrity worshipping culture. Because these people are "entertainers" and are used to people giving them their undivided attention, they believe that warrants them to push their often misguided opinions on others. Those of us with a brain can typically see through their BS. But there are those lacking in grey matter who will do whatever their "idol" tells them.

For instance, I read an article the other day about how Justin Beiber threw a fit because he wanted to push his views on his audience during a performance and they booed him. He doesn't understand that people paid to see him sing and dance like a trained monkey, not talk about what's going on in the world today. If he wants to voice his opinions, he should jump on social media like everyone else or actually sit down and have an actual conversation with someone. They're so used to always being the center of attention that they can't comprehend that we don't have to listen to what they say and we can interject.

I could care less who they are voting for. I care who I AM voting for; which I've already done. I make my decision based on my own research and watching related info on tv. Only an idiot would vote according to what a 'celebrity' did or told them.

Many people are looking for others to make the hard choices for them, many celebrities are held in such high regard by today's society that people hardly think for themselves anymore.

I don't think we let them, they just do it. A lot of people listen and emulate them so I am sure it is effective. If I had a large undeserved audience of sycophants who would do what I say I'd be telling them all kinds of stuff. Heck, why not.
