There are members of Congress still serving today who helped create this situation. Has it gotten better? Of course not. It's worse. Look, for example, at the British Navy. As of 19 March 2016, there are 77 commissioned ships in the Royal Navy. 19 of the commissioned vessels are major surface combatants (six guided missile destroyers and 13 frigates) and 11 are nuclear-powered submarines (four ballistic missile submarines and seven fleet submarines). I doubt they could defend the English Channel with that. And last year they furloughed their army for two weeks at Christmas to save money.

Now let's be honest. Defense spending (US defending the rest of the world) is a drop in the bucket compared to entitlements. We better start focusing on our elected representatives. It's easy to get caught up in the "excitement" of Presidential politics, especially this year. But the problem is endemic at every level. Have you seriously looked yet at who is running for local offices? Are you paying attention yet? You better.

My tag line used to be from the old Pogo funnies. "We have met the enemy, and he is us." That fairly summarizes our political situation. If we are serious about making changes, it must start by primarying the current elected officials. That, we do have votes that count.

As time has passed, the Selection of good candidates has dwindled to nearly zero. Millenials are being indoctrinated, not educated, in the Public School System. Even some Boomers are drinking the Kool Aid.

nice thought which I see here were

1) new waves of people must be educated yes, but they are out from school, I know that they need more from history, more from economic, theology, sociology joined on their good roots or traditions, they cannot be only as reflection youtube, feelings, art be human is like new category which have not open yet.
But what is in schools is not definitely ... WE will !, it means that mind must be with a one step in direction to do what we will tomorrow !
2) corruption is big problem which is compared with violence in whole world, we are like before flood, it mean we can count that second and third waves world effort will bring anti corruption strong effort because new generation which will educated, its clear that power of mind of people will want more justice not only personal feeling of love
3) emotional base of life is important now very, new base of good emotional values, people who cannot help put it into them now they can help later
dialogue and friendship across country can help always, jokes, art, intelligent influencers which have good target (no dream about money as main)
Army and Veterans are educated people but must use wider mind and heart and I hope in synergy with people who are civilians. In Army is system but we need both changes and better vitable systems for prosperity our lifes.
Army need more understand that spontaneous behaviour and responsibility are needed, both

Term limits for ALL politicians and judges, and move ALL voting to majority rules. DOING away with the electoral college. Also but politicians on minimum wage and ZERO lifetime pay. End citizen's united, make lobbying illegal, for a start.

We are heavily influenced by the media which is tied to the same corporate interests that buy our politicians. Both parties are hopelessly corrupt, they need to be kicked to the curb and new parties need to emerge. We need a Libertarian party, a Green Party, a Labor Party, and half a dozen more to share power in this country not a two party system that is only slightly less corrupt than the one party system of Cuba.

I agree the American people are being played by deceitful and immoral politicians. Unfortunately we don't seem to learn from pass mistakes. I think the definition of that is insanity.
