I didn't allow myself to be indoctrinated into any religion and have remained an Atheist. There can be many reasons for conversion (community, love, acceptance, safety, etc). It is up to the individual. Most people remain in the religion they were indoctrinated by. It would be unlikely but possible for a southern baptist from Georgia to convert to Islam. Just like it would be unlikely but possible for a Hindu in KolKata to convert to Christianity.

For several reasons and generally the same reasons most people convert to any other religion.

Some people convert for their significant other. So they can get married or maintain a household religion for their family.

Just as there are born again Christians who come to the faith, you have people to come to faith later in life to other religions.

For majority of the "main line" religions rooted in Jerusalem there are dozens of similarities and crossroads where they converge or intersect. They share in many of the same stories, people, places and events but from different perspectives, and points of view which changes how their religion worships and function.

Why do people convert from one religious ideology to another at all? Plenty of people convert from Catholicism to Methodist, for example.

Islam is an Abrahamic religion though - it's Islam, Judaism and Christianity that are the three Abrahamic religions and are actually more similar than people will admit.

I don't understand why anyone believes in any religion but to each their own.

Because they were never truly Christian to begin with. They usually only know the religion, like the main theocracies, never Truly knowing the Son of God, the Son of Man; Jesus Christ. Many are deceived of the Darkness, which permeates all religions. They believe the radicals that state that islam is "peaceful". They ignore the deadly practices of the other theocracies. The Prince of the World if jealous. He seeks to take as many souls from the Light, as possible.
