Why do people continue to push vaccine conspiracy theories and question the usage of masks?

With the passing of Colin Powel to the nation of Japan now having less than a 100 cases per, why do people continue to push vaccine conspiracy and question mask usage? Japan has proven to be a sucess story as of late they are having next to no cases per this article I read from Ap. https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-science-business-lifestyle-japan-e60d760da11f9cadda1d8acab2a6fbf5. From data I've seen as of our world data the nation is over 75% of its population partially vaccinated and 66 of its population fully vaccinated. https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=JPN. With a mix of high vaccination and public health measures the results are proof that both are working. I'm already seeing posts attacking the late Mr. Powels death of covid complications. He was fully vaccinated however; Mr. Powel was also 84 and immo-compromised. I belive he had cancer once. Taking this into consideration people of his age and his health still die yearly of pneumonia if still inoculated with the trusted flu vaccine. Just food for thought.

You gotta remember that mandates that violate one’s right to choose are unconstitutional. This brings in the ROEvsWADE argument. The virus that is currently circulating has a 98% survival rate compared to the 2016 version that didn’t require a vaccine or mask and went away.

Different culture, when I first visited Japan in the late 50s, I’d see many wearing masks. When I questioned the practice, I was told they were protecting others from their minor illnesses. Also, early mornings, you would see them sweeping off the sidewalks in front of homes and businesses.

If you take a step back and look at it through the lens of an unbiased observer, there's a lot more to unpack than just why won't people get the vaccine and trust the science. Back when the vaccine first came out, it was under the Trump Administration. However, you had many Democrat leaders who said they didn't trust the vaccine, even if Trump told them it would save their life. And nobody had a problem with it. That is where the mistrust in the vaccine began. Now, you have a Democrat Administration saying the same thing, but now all of a sudden it's not okay to be skeptical what the science and the experts are saying. All it seems like is that the Covid vaccine has been a political football used to suit each party for their wants and needs. It's never been about public health for either side.

Also, you have to be able to understand the mistrust between the African-American community and the government, see the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. Now, a majority of whites that aren't getting it (generally Republicans) it's because they don't trust the government either. They've felt the government has been focused solely on control. You also have to take into account that since the pandemic started, government agencies have classified some deaths as Covid deaths, despite what other extenuating circumstances that might be present. So, again, there's mistrust in the government.

Ultimately, it comes down to freedom and security. The more freedom you want, the less security you'll have. The more security you want, the less freedom you'll have.

PFC Metcalf, you are correct Gen. Powell was Immunol compromised and any attack on him is unfortunate. Many however hove legitimate reason not to get vaccinated and should not come under attack. The administration has done everything possible to question whether or not to take the shot. ex. you can't start off with "if Donald Trump had anything to do with the vaccine I won't trust it" or "If 70% of the population would get vaccinated the virus would disappear, or that "the unvaccinated is a danger to the vaccinated". None of these statements are true. Finally, one must ask why should I get vaccinate if I still have to wear the face diaper; not get close to anyone; can spread, catch or still die from COVID even after getting vaccinated, why am I being force to the shot which is supposedly good for 6 months.

Your last several sentences hit the nail on the head. Gen Powel was terminally ill with several diseases but his death was blamed on COVID. That is why so many do not trust what is being said by the media or government. We are constantly being told the vaccine prevents the disease yet their isn't a single flu type disease vaccine that does this, so when people hear and see fully (whatever that means) vaccinated people getting sick and dying they do not trust the vaccines. IMO they shouldn't. There is a big disconnect to what is being said and what is happening. Remember this disease is so bad for the population at large that it has not adversely affected the overall mortality rate. A truly deadly disease would have.

Mask usage, 30-70 thousand Americans die every year from influenza. So we should continue to wear masks for the rest of our lives, yes? Over 900,000 Americans die each year from tobacco-related illnesses, according to the CDC. I'm sure you think we should outlaw tobacco too? I hate smoking, but I don't want it outlawed. 35,000 Americans die every year in automobile accidents and we could almost completely eliminate that if we reduced the speed limit to 25 mph. So we should do that too? If we could live 100,000 years, all of that would make sense. We live 70 or 80 if we are very lucky. It doesn't make sense. Let's try to enjoy this short time that we have. If you are fearful, then you stay home, you wear a mask you do what you have to do to make yourself comfortable. Let me do the same.

Why would someone in the military have a lack of trust in the government concerning their health. Agent orange, gulf war syndrome, burn pits. At the beginning of this we were told different things every day, usually by the same scientists that are continuing to blather on on tv, every day. Then we got the vaccines, but they are experimental. Take it, but if it kills you or makes you I’ll, you can’t sue anyone who made it or told you to take it. Now we have burn through cases where people who have been fully vaccinated get sick. Kind of like the flu, which still infects and kills people who have been taking the shots every year since the 70’s. This stuff will be with us like herpes or old luggage. I'm completely vaccinated and had the booster; I wear a KN95 mask in public. I've never had COVID (funny how that works). But a women at the gym insisted masks and vaccines don't work. She HAS had COVID--because she won't mask and hasn't been vaccinated or received the booster. She's taken that position because Trump told her that COVID wasn't serious, so she didn't need to mask or vaccinate. The fact that HE has been vaccinated and received a booster doesn't register ("Do as I say, not as I do.") BTW, my sister-in-law is a doctor, so I get my information from HER, not some whack-a-doodle on the Internet CLAIMING to be an authority. Heck, I could go online and claim to be an astronaut or the pope. GO ASK YOUR DOCTOR WHETHER TO BE VACCINATED. You know, that person you'll trust to try to save your life if you come down with COVID? So trust them if they tell you to vaccinate and save the medical personnel the time and trouble it takes to keep you on a ventilator for 60 days before you finally die anyway.

The problem is that the vaccine is experimental and the companies that produce it are protected from being sued for damages from it. The evidence is becoming abundantly clear that there has been a larger amount of side effects and deaths from just the vaccine alone. So if you are in a group of people who are at risk from the CCP Virus then consult with your doctor and have him decide what's your best course of action. Demanding that healthy people get vaxed is wrong on many levels. Lockdowns, masks have been shown to cause more damage to people than if we did nothing as proven in Sweden, Florida, and Texas. So everyone has a decision to make and that's theirs to make, not the government. P.S. if your employer or doctor force you to get the vaccine and you have an adverse reaction, you can sue them. If you voluntarily take the jab then that's on you. Even Insurance companies are not paying death benefits to people who die after taking the jab voluntarily and are shown to have died from the vaccine..

Interesting more have died with a vax available than before it was created. Life insurance company in the Netherlands that has a good portion of US market has seen a 258% in mortality rates since the vax has been mandate. Maybe it’s just coincidence.

How can people make informed decisions when they’ve been lied to or fed misinformation for at least two years. This week, even the CDC has admitted that they’ve withheld information from the people and state leaderships. So, since the original post, we know so much more that we did just a few months ago. First, this is not a vaccine, proof positive, look it up if you do not know what a vaccine is and isn't. Don't rely on the new definition as defined by the CDC recently. Second, the COVID virus itself is 100 times smaller than a single thread of hair. There is no mask over the counter that can stop that small of a virus from escaping. Masks are not designed for viruses, they are designed for bacteria. Next, check the VAERS data from every virus in the past, and note the difference to the reports on the COVID jab. Lastly, look at who is getting infected with COVID and who isn't, it is attacking everyone still, even those who have been boosted! Our God given immune system helped me and my family get over COVID just fine.

p.s., how many of our troops that Biden just sent to eastern Europe do you think are wearing a mask today? How many fighters on both sides in Ukraine are wearing a mask? Wake up.

1. Masks are almost useless... Why? The COVID protein is so small it will pass thru an N95 mask. It's a feel-good thing.
2. The vaccine does not prevent COVID. My daughter is fully vaccinated for COVID & the Flu and has had COVID twice with a bout of the Flu between COVID. Her husband who is fully vaccinated has had COVID. But, neither of their children have had it and both were not vaccinated at the time.
I only got the vaccination to keep peace in the family and 54 years of marriage going. I will not get the boosters.

Because they read the research and find the facts for themselves. Don't have to go out into the weeds, either. Just citing the FDA's own data on the vaccine was enough to get several Youtube channels blocked for "misinformation."

When citing official data is misinformation, then we have a problem.

Personally, I prefer reading the primary sources over listening to those who talk about how they believe in science, but seem to be far more enamored with the word "science" than the hard work of understanding it.
