Why do members view the RP profiles of others members?

Just for conversation, but why do RALLY POINT individuals check on other members profiles without adding them? I'm just curious on what do you plan to gain from looking at a profile. If you want to network send a request or email, I'm glad to assist where I can if not I'll point you in a good direction.

I use the iPad app and constantly do it as I am trying to scroll down to see more comments. I find it quite irritating actually. Hope that helps you.

I believe we create them FOR other people to view. Why did you create yours? I haven't read yours and as it seems to be an issue for you, I won't. I usually ask someone if they want to "connect" before sending them a message. I have probably only read 3 or 4 profiles in the 7 months since I joined. I love this site and am proud to have served my country. I am a 100% Disabled Viet Nam Vet. What I gain is the other members' interests, hobbies and information about their service. Why isn't there a Green icon next to your name as to "Currently Serving" or "Non-Retired" or an icon that you have been verified?

If I am using my I pad or Android tablet the screen can be very touchy sometimes and I accidentally view peoples profile. I assume that is the same when it happens to me for the most part. I think that their web dev team needs to have a mechanism for tablets and phones to prevent unintentional profile views, like a pop up that confirms that is what you intended.

Why have a profile if you don't want anyone to read it? I'll look now and then to see if the person has any experience in a subject they may have commented on.

If not due to operator error then it's likely to satisfy curiosity, or to flesh out an initial impression, or to confirm or discount an initial judgment about that person's apparent character.

I do it for a number of reasons.

1. The most common for me is because I often use a tablet to surf RP and simply put it accidentally registers my touch as a click rather than me scrolling.

2. To get an idea of the background of service members I see on a regular basis on here. Depending on what people do I may or may not want to add them as a contact. It also helps to know what experience someone has in a particular career or hobby as I may be looking for tips in those regards.

3. The last reason I usually look at someone's profile is when it is someone I don't really recognize I try to see if there profile looks legitimate. A lot of people can and do sign up for nothing more than to troll the site and one can generally tell based on how well put together the person's profile is whether they are who they say they are.

I view profiles to get a basic idea of the member's background and sometimes to see if I know them. If I don't know them or decide that I don't want to network, I don't email or send a connection request.

Here is my Rebuttal, I did not put this up to say I have a problem with someone viewing my profile. It was a general question. If I worded it in a way that made it sound tasteless then my apologies to all the users here. Rally point is a great tool to draw knowledge and meet new people I don't want to ruin that experience for everyone.

I look at a person's profile for several reasons. Mostly to see if we have things in common e.g. age, time served, etc

Most of the time, it's an accidental click on my behalf - I rarely check profiles, unless they check mine first or if it's someone I'm willing to connect with.

Sometimes it's because the name looks familiar... That is about 90% of why I do... the other 10% is sometimes error, or someone voted me down without stating why, or someone posted something profound enough that I would like to know more about them... There are other reasons in the 10%, just too many to list...
